The West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department (WRCVFD, (link...)) urgently needs volunteer firefighters for its Station #2 serving the neighborhoods of Eagle Furnace, Camp Buck Toms, Whites Creek, Glen Alice, and Brigadoon. Free training is available.

Right now there are no volunteers for Station #2 on Eagle Furnace Road at all. None. This means all medical and fire responders must drive all the way from Station #1 on Pumphouse Road to get to emergencies in this area.

We haven't had an active volunteer firefighter in the Station #2 area since Charlie Mead passed away a year ago.

Men and women living in this area, please step up. Many of our volunteers are retired; all ages 18+ are encouraged to apply. Call 354-8201 to learn more.

You're absolutely right, OneT

OneT has put this plea in very good terms, so I am not going to be foolish enough to try to improve on that.

I will add. however - not at all meaning to be detrimental to OneT's exhortations for volunteers in the geographic areas mentioned - that for those of you who may live in South Roane County, that department is also in need of volunteers.

Volunteers make up a HUGE percentage of the firefighters across this country. Don't be thinking that because they are volunteers they do not have to be qualified - there is significant training.

But make no mistake about it - those volunteers ARE needed.

And this IS the Volunteer State :-)

UPDATE: Eagle Furnace/Camp Buck Toms/Whites Creek Area

There are still no volunteer would-be firefighters for the Station #2 area (Eagle Furnace/Camp Buck Toms/Whites Creek, etc.). :(

Are there no residents here willing to step up?
