By way of friends at Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation: Sewanee University Prof, David Haskell, reports the first photographic record of a mountain lion from a game camera on the southern Cumberland Plateau. There have been rumors and visual accounts for years. This does not verify a breeding population and single males can wander for hundreds of miles, but it is promising. And before anybody goes off on being afraid of "panthers" let's remember that the deadliest animal in the USA is the White Tail Deer, primary food for cougars and responsible for over 150 deaths a year from car crashes.
