We just got our last Schwan's delivery. Our Knoxville-based delivery man and his co-workers have been laid off. A Schwan's spokeswoman told me that they had to "close some under-performing delivery centers."

Big loss for the county
The loss of Schwan's home delivery rips a big hole in the county's rural safety net. Until now, someone too sick to cook or shop or unpack UPS-shipped coolers could at least eat meals delivered by Schwan's.
Yes, there is the local Meals on Wheels equivalent, but last I looked the waiting list was about two years and the minimum age was 60 even for the officially disabled.
Who will bring the sick their meals now?

It would seem like there is
It would seem like there is an opportunity for a home delivery business in our area. I know these have been set up in other places. Time for some research.
