Safe Restaurants in TN Project

I promise that I personally will look for "No guns" restaurants.

So will the people...

.. who would like to cause trouble (e.g. armed robbery, etc) in a restaurant. That way they know they're safe.

Come back with some statistics that say how likely that is. As it is now, this is useless sensationalism on your part.

Predictions shouldn't require references as to their accuracy. If they did few could ever make predictions.

To RB: good common-sense point. In my long experience, at least some armed robbers are not adverse to easier targets.

And perhaps one or two folks might opine that neither are some "new media journalists," myself included. :)

says cities don't have the right to decide the issue for themselves. Only bar and handgun owners.

some studies

For years, studies have shown that criminals prefer to be armed and prefer to accost unarmed victims.

Criminals pick targets based upon the target’s perceived ability to defend themselves or ward off the criminal.

Criminals use all available evidence to ascertain the ability of a potential victim’s ability to ward off an attack, robbery, etc.

  • Age of victim
  • Health of victim
  • Likelihood that victim is armed or not armed (often linked to location of victim).

Studies of felons suggest that the possibility of an encounter with an armed civilian is a great deterrent.

As some "men prefer blondes", criminals appear to prefer unarmed targets and go to areas where they can most likely find unarmed victims.

Interestingly, studies from the right and left appear to agree that guns are used in criminal activity and homicides predominantly by prior criminals - people already convicted or arrested for criminal activities perpetrate most gun crime. In other words, prior criminals use guns to commit crimes more often that non-criminals.

My reading of studies tells me that if you are accosted by an armed assailant the odds are that that person:

  • Will be a criminal with a prior criminal history
  • Will not be a Handgun Carry Permit Holder

I don't worry about being harmed by a Handgun Carry Permit Holder. In fact, I don't worry much about being attacked by anyone. Knowing that criminals committ crimes, I avoid places were criminals are most likely to hang out.

Prediction: Our restaurants and bars will not turn into the OK Corral.

41 States Allow

If this information is correct, 41 of 50 states allow firearms in restaurants that serve alcohol.

Why haven’t we been reading about blood baths at TGI Fridays, Outback and Chili's?

Where is the evidence and statistics showing how allowing gun carry in these establishments has resulted in death and mayhem?

Perhaps no evidence exists.
