It's that time of year again, time for the West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department Spring appeal.

The fine men and women of this all-volunteer charity not only fight our fires but also provide our First Responder and emergency medical services very cost-effectively.

Please consider a generous tax-deductible donation by mail to WRCVFD, P.O. Box 417, Rockwood, TN 37854, or online at WestRoane.com.

West Roane County VFD is a real bargain for property owners here; costs would go up considerably were we to be forced to move to paid, fully tax-supported fire and emergency medical protection.

Please consider giving now even if you haven't given in a while. Help West Roane help everyone.

We need this appeal to work

My postcard came today.

I hope this appeal works. Two years ago only 8% of property owners chipped in. Last year only about 3% donated. :( And last year to our community's shame the biggest contributors were...members of the fire department! These are the same folks who so generously give of their time to volunteer all year.

I am hoping and praying that this spring all of us get off our duffs and send in a check (or donate online).

If we had to go to a paid department or contract with a company like Rural Metro we would all be forced to pay in a lot more each and every year. I hope it doesn't come to that.

Please send in your check. Then go out and spread the word. Ask your friends and neighbors to donate now. Yes, times are tough, but they would be a lot tougher with a paid fire department.
