Education Legislation currently in TennesseeSubmitted by WhitesCreek on April 21, 2008 - 1:40pm.
I am not at all sure I understand the ins and outs of current legislation initiatives and would appreciate it if Tyler or Earl would give us their opinion. From the outside most of these bills look good but what is the opinion from our folks who will be afected by some of them? Update: The Link is fixed...Sorry 'Bout that.

My take is that the bill(s) intention is to drive more funds into the classroom to benefit students & teachers. All good. In the process it will require additional administrative staff to manage compliance. However, new funding isn't included. In short, Nashville would like to see the current BEP $ directed to "hands on uses" but some of that current $ must pay for an additional book-keeper. It's not do more with less but do more with what you have. It sets the stage to require more local $ be spent on local schools. Sounds good but our local money is overtaxed & in short, limited supply.
Some of the other bills I quickly looked at seem to level the playing field in spreading out funds for higher ed, making grant $ available to more folks to finished their education & obtain a degree.
I'm sure Earl will put depth to this topic.
