So you have an organization founded on eliminating taxes and take a show of hands poll to see who is for a tax increase...

Roane County Tea Party Chairman Val McNabb told commissioners what happened when a property tax increase was discussed during one of his meetings.
“I asked for a show of hands, who was in support of a property tax increase – 25 to 45 people in the meeting – not a one raised their hand,” he said.

Never

Never been to a TEA meeting, probably never will, but I wouldn't have raised my hand. Not so much that I am opposed to taxes, they are necessary for many things, but until I see the government(s) and their various agencies learn how to manage their money better I don't think they deserve more money. In my opinion, much of their reasons for increases are smoke and mirrors.

Refusing to raise taxes as a

Refusing to raise taxes as a knee jerk reaction is self destructive in the short and long run. I agree that part of our problem is that we let our commissioners spend money on worthless projects, such as the $10 million for an industrial park in other counties. Trashing our schools to make up for it is not the smartest idea. Subsidizin multimillionaire and multinational corporation businesses in Roane County industrial parks hurts on the revenue side which then requires that you pay a higher tax rate to make up the difference. Redirecting what we let the commissioners spend money on will correct the situation in the long run but let's not be short sighted and ruin our schools in a fit of pique.

I agree with you both about the worthless projects and the need to help our schools.

Of course, I wish we would save money--and the brains of our youth--by getting rid of our football programs.
