I am very confused by this. Since the rest of us are subsidizing Volkswagen I would like to know what we are getting for our money? The RCN story is more confusing with these two quotes from the head of Roane Alliance, Leslie Henderson:

“They do not pay any tax,” said Leslie Henderson...

“There is no plan to exempt the school taxes,” Henderson said. “That was just something we were researching.”

I did not know that we paid "school tax". I though it was just property tax. The article is very unclear to me. Even so, that's not the real question we should be asking.

The question continues to be, "What are we getting for our money?" New lanes were built on I40 so that workers from Loudon County could easily flow into the industrial park and there is exactly zero lunch time patronage of Roane County restaurants by those who work there. The Roane County beer tax goes to pay Ms Henderson's $100,000+ salary, which may be well deserved but I can't tell from the information we have.

School Tax

It sounds to me as if the $10,000 flat fee or tax or whatever it is that they pay in lieu of property tax, is being called a "school tax".

That's a paltry amount

That's a paltry amount compared to what they should be paying.

It most certainly is a

It most certainly is a paltry amount. We pay good money to insure that we have to pay even more of our hard earned dollars to subsidize our institutionalized corporate welfare in this country. It's great to be #1.
