Boy was this predictable...At the 2013 Tennessee Valley Corridor National Summit Senator Alexander trashed the German" model of energy independence which relies heavily on wind and solar power and rejects nuclear power. He makes an interesting claim that Germany is closing its own nuclear plants while buying nuclear power from other countries, which is a stretch at best and an outright lie upon examination. Check this headline:
German energy surplus quadruples despite renewable push

Here's a snip from the KNS story:

Alexander noted that Germany is now closing its nuclear power plants and becoming more dependent on natural gas. At the same time, it’s buying both of those forms of energy from other countries — not producing it on its own.

Funny that Alexander calls for ending federal subsidies on oil but fails to note that he supported the filibuster on the Senate bill that would have ended those very subsidies. Germany is connected to the European electric grid which allows countries to exchange power at peak and off peak times to level demand. That is not the same as "importing" electric power and he knows that.

TVA plans to build six nuclear plants in Roane County. I suggest they build them next to Senator Alexander's house instead of ours.
