"I remember when Tennessee was the leading state for economic development in the South and one of the top 3 in the United States of America," the newly elected Tennessee Democratic Party chairman said Monday. "Now we rank No. 1 in the country for references and time on Colbert and late-night television."

Tennessee becoming the new Texas for right wing stupidity
And that is why we are leaving the state. Our family arrived in Tennessee in 1974, but Tennessee has become so regressive that we can not bear to live here any longer.
This is what happens when an under-educated populace, steered by outdated and invalid social information and conditioning, elects an ignorant and backward looking state government that has become number one in national political jokes.
Will the native sons and daughters make it better in the future? Probably unlikely since the same creepy reactionary republicans keep getting re-elected, in spite of their persistent legislative failings.
If one lives waist deep in ignorance and mental poverty all ones life, one comes to accept that as normal. We don't, and we do not accept the regressive status quo as defined by the majority of Tennessee's populace. Our family refuses to be dragged any further backward socially or culturally.
NEWS FLASH-Tennessee is rapidly morphing into the worst of the backward southern stereotype, and new elections won't change that fact. As I have stated before, you can't fix stupid if the people don't want it fixed.

Gee Leaf, you seem to paint
Gee Leaf, you seem to paint all of us with a very broad brush. RoaneViews exists to combat the very things you accuse us of. I'm sorry your experience here has left you that unhappy. I think this state and its people are worth my efforts. It's a process.
I hope you find what you're looking for.
Steve
Well Gee yourself
After all, isn't this the very same RoaneViews that posts daily links to stories grounded in ignorance and religious intolerance that embarrass either the county or the state? You can only have it both ways because your ego is so large you think you're a player. That pretty much guarantees that any "journalistic combat" will be light indeed. I totally agree with your statement, "I think this state and its people are worth my efforts."
As part of the comfortable class, I'm not expecting you to ignite much of a revolution in the political landscape. Liberal hand wringing is not an effective political strategy, otherwise things might be different, but they are not.
What is it my family (wife, sons, wives, grandchildren) are looking for after all? Mostly quality of life issues like better air to breathe, cleaner water to drink, less population density, an overall smarter populace that elects good, broad minded officials. A community that places health issues ahead of development dollars, treasures the true worth of farmland to remain farmland, promotes wholesome food and a clean environment. And lastly a community that is eclectic enough so that no one cultural, social, or religious group can impose its political will upon the rest of the unwilling populace. We found that place, it does exists, and we are moving there.
