Oliver Springers Still Leave Town for Package Store PurchasesSubmitted by WhitesCreek on December 4, 2012 - 9:39am.
I was trying to think of a funnier headline that got the point across but just didn't have the comedy flash this morning. Here's the deal: Oliver Springs lies in three different counties. Bad enough, right? Add to that the fact that the three counties are Anderson, Morgan, and Roane and there you go. In the recent referendum on retail alcohol sales, Roane County defeated Anderson and Morgan so Oliver Springs stands as the only town in Roane County that doesn't have liquor stores. Numerically, the Morgan County vote was a landslide with 66% voting in favor. OK, the vote was actually 2 votes to one vote, but hey...

How is that even possible? Roane County has package stores, but somehow has prevented O.S. from opening one? My first reaction was {and FYI, I don't drink} why not open one in Anderson county then, but for reasons that no one seems able to explain, it has to be legal in all three, but one of the ones that has package stores blocked it????
One might get the impression that Politics is just another form of mental illness. Hmmm. Maybe it is. :-)

Liquor stores aren't legal in the county, just the cities that have legalized them.
The voters of OS are what did the preventing. They had the election for inside their city. Roane County had nothing to do with it.

Did I not read that Roane Country blocked this?
So if Roane County had nothing to do with the defeat, but O.S. residents, but Anderson and Morgan both approved ....
I am so glad I don't drink, but I'm beginning to wonder about the sobriety of some others. LOL

The Roane County portion of Oliver Springs is what I was referring to. I thought that was obvious, sorry.
... i.e. the citizens of Oliver Springs who ALSO HAPPEN to be in the Roane County part of the town. Not Roane County as a government entity.
Roane County as a government entity had absolutely ZERO to do with it.
