We have been fighting a forest fire at Whites Creek that was started around 3:30 this afternoon. We thought we had it contained but it's just too dry and it jumped the fire line several times. We have three dozers in the woods and will attack again at first light. It's time like this I wish I could give more to the Volunteer Firefighters. They were in the woods with me shoulder to shoulder and one had to be evacuated to the hospital for heat related problems. When this is over I am definitely having them out to the creek for a good cool swim. Did I mention that we need rain?

The Volunteer Firefighters...

... are exemplary in their dedication that "does a lot with a little!"

They are amazing. And still in this country, the vast majority of all firefighters are still volunteers. I don't think there's a way we could support them too muck. Like you, I wish I could do more.

We need a gentle, rain that starts, rains for a while, lets up, then starts again. If it rains hard right now, as hard as the earth is, we'll just get runoff flooding and a different set of problems.

Here's hoping we get relief soon.

I sure wish and hope the best for you at that beautiful area Whites Creek Gorge!
