For years, there have been very few candidates who venture out to Swan Pond...at least, since the TVA Ash Disaster yet even then, we saw few, if any, elected officials knocking on our doors. Seems people (politicians) get to the TVA site and just simply forget to stop on by our community. In fact, I think if some TVA workers were to run for office, they possibly could be elected, as TVA has worked hard to earn our friendship and a mutual respect. The depth of the disaster has not changed yet mutual respect is present.
For candidates who are not familiar with Swan Pond...it's pretty easy to find.
Take the Mid-town exit (if you aren't from here), head as if you would be going to TVA Steam Plant at Swan Pond Road...then turn on Swan Pond Circle Road.
Why come to this residential area called Swan Pond? First of all, many residents have been in this area for over 6 generations. Secondly, most are voters --- we have Swan Harbor, Swan Pond Circle Road, several neighborhoods. The road is a 5 mile circle, beautiful anytine of year.
Because so many people out here have been in Roane County their entire lives, have raised children, and even have a huge community picnic whereby over 500 people attend, it is clear the family / friend ties are very lengthy in Roane County generated directly from Swan Pond.
The last politicians out this way included Kent Calfee, who received a great reception (even from Democrats) and prior Hurley supporters.
For anyone who is running for office, please take a moment to come to our community --- just give it a whirl -- park, get a 4-wheeler, visit us. Or, ride in your car, get out and meet us.
There are many local races as well as our State Rep race. Rep Hurley, why don't you stop by as well? In fact, I do not think Rep Hurley has ever been around Swan Pond Circle...only as far as the TVA plant. Of course, perhaps it is that no one has ever seen her. A common theme of the voters is "we vote for these people then never see them."
Politicians, we know you monitor this site so just come on out! We have Republicans and Democrats alike. Many voters ... and many friends connected to our community.

This is not the statement you had on here the other day where you said Hurley supporters had been there in the past.

Well, that supporter was me during the last election. And I no longer support her.

Concerned Resident...not following what you are saying...And, why don't you use your name, Julia?
hurley i supporters n SwanPond
Julia, if you are going under Concerned Resident which is highly likely (or, is one of your people), there is not a single Hurley sign in Swan Pond, to my knowledge.
As far as my family, we are 9+ generations of ultra conservative voters and from what I hear, not a single vote for Hurley expected. Why? Many people believe the other candidate will offer far more respect and produce a conservative republican vote in Nashville without all the add on embarrassments... We don't need 'brash', we need conservative intelligence presented with strong character and professionalism.
young women need great role models
As a young woman I think that it is important for my generation to have powerful intelligent women to look up to in politics. Women of a certain caliber. Women that make you proud to say I am a republican woman!!! 2 years ago I was so excited to see a young powerful intelligent woman running for the house of representatives. When I heard that julia hurley had defeated dennis ferguson it made me proud. That was the last time I have ever been proud of julia hurley! Since then she has showed her true colors. she's not the person that we thought she was. She is not someone for young intelligent women; like myself to look up too. She is an embarrassment. I will not be making the same mistake twice. She has lost my vote.
