From Rep. Hurley's FaceBook wall ((link...)):
"TN State Representative Julia C Hurley: My desk!
May 21 at 8:00pm"
Apparently Rep. Hurley does not know that "[w]hen the United States flag is displayed with the flags of states of the union or municipalities and not with the flags of other nations, the federal flag, which represents all states, should be flown above and at the center of the other flags" ((link...), PDF). To do otherwise is a violation of the U.S. Flag Code.
Updated to change "violation of federal law" to "violation of the U.S. Flag Code." Thanks and a tip of the hat to RockwoodLawyer!

Hurley needs an editor
There were even more "fails" on her FaceBook page.
There is nothing wrong with being a beginner. There is nothing wrong with not knowing everything a politician or even a citizen needs to know.
However, there is something wrong with Rep. Hurley not knowing her limitations and not getting the help and editing she needs so she can present a competent front in her representation of our county.

The flag she has in the
The flag she has in the middle is the "Don't Tread On Me" flag. Doesn't this flag represent the Tea Party?
Here's Julia's FB comments under the photo of the yellow flag:
TN State Representative Julia C Hurley hahaha... yes you can say that! rep. Lollar gave me that flag the last night of session - I earned it
What does she mean? She earned the Tea Party flag?
Her actions continue to disappoint me.
Flag Burning and Other Signs of Disrespect
Actually, OneT, any law, federal or otherwise, purporting to make certain forms of disrespect of the American flag illegal would be an unconstitutional abridgement of freedom of speech. See Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989). So if Ms. Hurley in the course of her own personal political speech wants to disrespect the flag, violate the United States Flag Code and elevate a tea party flag above those of our nation and state, that is her prerogative.
Rockwood Lawyer
Thanks for the reminder! :)
According to the senate.gov site I found, disrespecting the flag is still a violation. Of course it is permitted as free speech.
It may be her right to exercise that kind of free speech and disrespect the flag and violate the U.S. Flag Code, but is that what we want our representative doing? :(
Also, considering Rep. Hurley's "community involvement" with the D.A.R. ((link...)), she should be striving "to insure (the flag's) correct use and display, and to educate children and adults in the authorized rules of the Flag Code adopted by the United States Congress" ((link...)).
I still maintain Rep. Hurley needs an editor so she can put her best foot forward.
