This post is a little off topic for a hyperlocal blog, but then again it is not.

"We drank a toast to innocence..."

Dan Fogelberg died yesterday...Prostate cancer...100% curable with early detection. He has a message for us at his website.

Men...We hate it but we have to get checked. I plan to schedule my exam today.

Women...You have permission to nag on this one.

Honor roll

I'm scheduled. Ok, guys...Everybody over 50 gets one DPE a year.

Don't be afraid. You know it's no more embarrassing than what the wife goes through on a regular basis. And we all have friends who have prostate cancer...I have two battling it right now.

You are SO right, WC.

I've been subjecting myself to that particular form of torture for some time now, and, so far (knock on wood), I've always been told I'm in good shape. It's something men have gotta do. That and the colonoscopy. Colon cancer is SO curable if caught early it ain't even funny. The prep isn't fun, but nowadays they've got WAY good drugs to give when it's done.

No excuses accepted - just do it.

And Dan was such a talent! Hate to see him go. Here's to ya, Dan!

The leader of the band is tired
And his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs through
My instrument
And his song is in my soul --
My life has been a poor attempt
To imitate the man
I am just a living legacy
To the leader of the band.

RIP, Dan.

RB

the leader of the band

what a true american icon. dan fogelberg said in song what so many of us felt. he "ran for the roses" and was "the leader of the band." this year, i'll be lifting a glass to him by that "same old lang syne." i'll second roane booster, rip dan!

by the way guys, just do it. we wives and mothers will definitely appreciate it.
