EPA's Craig Zeller:

"I would counter that this reconstructed cell is going to be a dramatic improvement over what was there," Mr. Zeller said.

Well, duh! A car with two wheels is dramatically better than a car with no wheels but it is still a half assed way to get anywhere.

The things people say...

"Environmental Protection Agency Remedial Project Manager Craig Zeller said water and air monitoring in the spill area have shown no adverse health or environmental impacts." (link...)

Doesn't that remind you of: "But I want to say one thing to the American people. I want you to listen to me. I'm going to say this again: I did not have sexual relations with that woman." speach?

Craig's statement on the

Craig's statement on the monitoring bothers me as much as anything. He knows that the monitoring is incomplete and that statement is simply false.

Ms. McCoin said she feels betrayed

Ms. McCoin said she feels betrayed by the decision.

"First, TVA told us they'd get the mess cleaned up in six to eight weeks, and how many times have I heard them say they would be a 'good corporate neighbor?' Then when EPA came in, we saw them as a savior. Now it feels as if we've been jeopardized by the collaboration of the two."

Sarah expressed my feelings perfectly. I blame the TVA for causing the disaster. I blame the EPA for allowing TVA to make us live with it's aftermath. The EPA has let us down. I think the EPA has intentionally delayed putting new regulations on coal ash in effect until TVA decided how they wanted to deal with the mess at Kingston. It's a damn shame this could happen.

I knew from the first...

...that the ash would be allowed to remain in place. There's just too much of it to ever be completely removed. TVA had a much larger storage area in mind from the first day of the tragedy. It was simply too overwhelming to just sweep it away as if it never happened.

Mushy

I thought so too, Mushy.

I thought so too, Mushy. From the first day that I viewed the enormousy of the spill, I said that they would never get it all moved and that they would probably just leave it there, smooth it out, cover it with dirt and build a ballfield on top of it, like they did with all the earlier dumping on around the bend.

The ash that is spread out

The ash that is spread out will not be left where it is. It will all be excavated and returned to the original dredge cell and reinforced with concrete walls and capped with clay and top soil. All the area will be returned to prespill condition there will be no ash outside of where it was contained prespill.

I hope your statement was

I hope your statement was meant as sarcasm because anyone should know that TVA will never be able to clean it all up.

The recovery of the spilled ash is sort of like someone splitting a feather pillow and scattering the feathers and then trying to pick all the feathers back up. They will NEVER recover all the spilled ash from the land or the water!

I wish it was sarcasm but

I wish it was sarcasm but the TVA and EPA still maintain that all the ash on the land will be recovered. But there will be ash left in the river.
