Members of the community of Roane County, Tennessee, impacted by the TVA Coal Fly Ash Disaster on December 22, 2008, has formed a group called Tennessee Coal Ash Survivors Network (TCASN), Thursday, January 29, 2009. This non-profit group was formed to help people impacted by the TVA Kingston Coal Plant fly ash disaster. Their goals are to help with health hazards, air monitoring, ash and water sampling, media, and public education.
Some of the members have been training for certification in air monitoring in Delaware. This training will establish that the sampling done by this group will use the correct sampling instruments and materials. Pollution Log Forms has been distributed to the impacted people of the community to help select the sampling sites.
The group is trying to help people who are having respatory problems, and families with new born babies find other places to evacuate to. These people need to be away from the dust and coal fly ash being stirred up by the trucks and wind in the Swan Pond area. Asthma suffers are having bad reactions to the dust and fly ash also. Suffers seem to get relief upon leaving the area, but the symptoms come right back upon returning home.
A good working relationship has been established with United Mountain Defense. This non profit group has aided in the training and media attention for their group. Several of the members have been interviewed by national and international media. The group is even getting attention in Washington DC.
There will me many press releases informing the community and media of heavy metal testing provided by a Heavy Metal testing lab in Nashville, future and past independent sampling data, and illnesses that come from being exposed to the dust and fly ash.
Help to the people impacted by this TVA Coal Fly Ash disaster is their goal. Their website can be found at http://www.tennesseecoalashsurvivorsnetwork.comand their blog can be viewed at (link...) For information about the group call Diana Anderson at 865-882-3968.
