Got lucky and got invited to sit down today with a small group of Roane Countians and candidate for Governor Karl Dean. I should have known that a two time Mayor of Nashville Tennessee would be competent and impressive, but I was more than impressed. Mayor Dean has a firm grip on where Tennessee politics stand at present and a clear plan and path to be our next governor.

He was very disappointed in the closings of 9 rural hospitals in our state and blamed it on the failure of medicaid expansion by the legislature, even though Governor Haslam proposed a reasonable plan to bring those Federal dollars back to our state.

Karl Dean was supportive of public schools and questioned attempts to divert tax dollars from our students.

He said jobs are here but what we need are higher paying jobs and that he supports workplace continuing education. "We are in a rapidly changing environment and Tennessee needs to run with the big dogs in education."

I went away from the meeting kinda liking the guy.

Here's his web site so you can decide for yourself: (link...)
