Ten area Volunteer Fire Departments will compete in the annual Firefighter Games Competition to be held Saturday, July 19. See your local VFD in action! Go to the Wartburg Central High School at the BIG Flag on Highway 62.

The festivities start at 10:00 am and run all day. Of special interest is the Water Ball Competition at 4:00 PM.

These are serious physical games relating to firefighting. Some of the participating volunteer fire departments have been in training for 6 months or more to get ready.

Call Charlie of the West Roane VFD at 354-1993 for more information.

Do know which Depts will compete?

Thanks for the news of this, OneT!

Are all the Roane VFDs going?

Yes, all the Roane County VFD's should be there, as far as I know. Maybe folks from each group can chime in so we'll know for sure? :)

Of course some members need to stay back in case of fire or medical emergency.

Those folks do SUCH a good job!

There's hardly a day goes by I'm not impressed by something I've seen or heard about the VFDs. They run their butts off every day being First Responders even when they're not rolling to fires. Their help is invaluable to the EMS folks (and their patients) as well as folks who have fires.

And you know one thing that impresses me tremendously? Although they don't all agree on all details of various issues (they're all people, right?), they WORK TOGETHER. After the recent decision by the County Commission regarding fire service in the county, I was among a group of leaders (as a listener) in several (3 or 4) of the departments. Know what was UTMOST in their priorities? It was working out an organization and a process that would not only work for them in the here and now, but that would continue to work well in the future for the folks that succeeded them! Now THAT'S admirable, and THAT'S having your head in the right place!

WRCVFD

RB,

I have just been told that WRCVFD may contribute a judge, but that otherwise they won't be in the games this year. Apparently they have been too busy with emergency response calls to train for the games. :( West Roane is looking forward to next year, though!

Well, they ARE a BUSY bunch of folks!

And, as an aside, they have some of the most professional sounding folks, by the way they use their radios, in the county.
