TDEC officials have informed the Bush Administration that Tennessee will stand by its regulations requiring suitable buffer zones around surface mines.

State officials confirm that this effectively prohibits mining practices, such as mountaintop removal, in the State of Tennessee (at least as long as Governor Bredesen is in office), in spite of the possible effects of new Bush Administration regulations.

The massively destructive practice may occur in other states, however.

To date, the failure to expand Medicaid / TennCare has cost the State of Tennessee ? in lost federal funding.
