The one person you want your picture taken with if you are running for office in Roane County is Una Coffman, long time Roane County Commissioner and really decent person, even though she has republican tendencies.
Becky gave one of the best speeches as to why she's running that I have heard from a local politician. We found out she had been widowed at 23 with a small daughter and with a son on the way, and that she knew how tough it is to try to raise a family with no insurance working for minimum wage.
I usually think, "Yeah, yeah," when I hear a politician talking about wanting to win office because they think they can "Make a Difference" but in this case I am convinced it is true. Becky Ruppe has a fairly high paying elected office as County Mayor of Morgan County right now. State Senator pays about a third as much. The folks I talked to that have worked with Becky marvel at her leadership and effectiveness.
So, OK...I drank the Kool-aid and am totally supporting Mayor Ruppe for my next State Senator.
Becky gave talked to the crowd in the company of past State Senator and now Congressman, Lincon Davis, current Senator, Tommy Kilby, and State Rep Dennis Fergusen.
A Who's Who in Roane County was there to watch and applaud:
Mayor Troy Beets, Teresa Kirkham, Gerald Largen, Tony Brown, Polk Cooley, Dick Evans, Mayor Mike Farmer, and a host of others in what I would call bi-partisan support for a Democratic Candidate.
I'll post more photos as I have time.
