Tennessee One Of Only Three States That Allows Annexation Without Vote of Affected Residents

Submitted by WhitesCreek on March 13, 2013 - 7:11am.

Annexation into a city would require majority approval of impacted residents in a referendum under legislation approved by a House committee Tuesday despite contentions the move breaks an agreement that was supposed to last for 20 years.

Rep. Mike Carter, R-Ooltewah, said his bill, HB475, is simply a matter of fairness to people and respect for their property rights.

Of course the TN Municipal League is against this. Midtown residents should let Yager and Calfee know how they feel.

annexation

While he was running I asked Calfee about Public Chapter 1101, I have asked Yager about it several times...I got no response. The annexation law and MTAS are undercutting all counties revenue. I will contact Yager and Calfee, but I doubt either will respond.

Metro. We all pay, we all win. We can't afford our current path of division

Shuffle

Looks like HB475/SB279 is being pushed and shuffled through several committees and subcommittees. My guess is they are trying to get it to a study committee, which means nothing will happen this year. I have written Rep. Calfee and Sen. Yager, shockingly (sarcasim intended) they have not replied or contacted me in any form or fashion.
