Cleveland Rep Pushes Bill to Arm Teachers

What could possibly go wrong? Quite frankly, the teachers who would want to carry a weapon around our children are exactly the ones I don't want carrying a weapon around our children. Think about it.

Unless

Unless you know each and every one of them personally that is, in my opinion, an overly broad assumption to make. But we do still have the right to think out loud, and that is a good thing.

Really? Presumably such teachers would have to be trained in handling a firearm, licensed, and pass a rather rigorous background check to carry on school property. This would only make sense. Furthermore there would be more than one teacher so armed {a deterrent to any one teacher going "postal"}.

I'm not familiar with the particulars of the bill, but it seems to me that what I've outlined above would be the minimum required, and if these are included I fail to see what you would find worthy of objection? If there is someone you have just cause to think should not be allowed to carry you should be able to voice/submit your objection during the background investigation phase.

Well, so far the idea is to

Well, so far the idea is to keep the names of the armed teachers secret, so that wouldn't work, KL. Secondly, this isn't going to make children safer and may well put them at higher risk. Let's note that there were two staff people at Columbine with weapons and that Va Tech had its own police force. This is a stupid knee jerk idea with in basis in reality. The majority of teachers are against it.

Pearl River High School

It worked in 1997 at Pearl River High School. Asst. Principal Myrick retrieved his .45 and subdued a student that had killed at the high school that killed 2 and wounded 7.

But in the majority of cases

But in the majority of cases it didn't. It won't make children safer. It's like the old lie that people are safer with a gun in their house when they are 22 times more likely to shoot their own family member than use the weapon in defense. Logically this is insane.
