Roane County School Board (RCSB) meeting reveals the truth about the request made in an amendment rejected by the County Commission (CC). In a clear and concise presentation by the RCSB Financial Director, the funds requested to pay for (see below) in an amendment request WOULD NOT HAVE RESULTED in a Tax increase nor any funds from the County.

Truancy
Unemployment
Janitorial Services
Liability Insurance

Hurley's Ten Cents

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22, 2012

Still an ASS no matter how you sling the mud. A response to RoaneViews owner S.S.
Steve,
I did more in two years than you will ever accomplish in your lifetime of hatred for Roane County. I have been told that by more real leaders than I can care to forget. You and your liberal friends have done nothing for that county in over 25 years, and in Nashville, where the votes and decisions are truly made, I am confident in my accomplishments.
Your idea of "worthwhile" was sitting by while Fergusson destroyed your county and its' potential while spending every local penny he could on more Government Programs that NEVER got your people out of poverty.
You and I will never agree on anything, and to even think that I didn't do something for that county and to even think you are the person to judge that, is a joke in and of itself.
It is an insult to the people of Roane County that you would even consider yourself politically intelligent enough to speak on the issue of what is or is not good for that district. When you put your name on a ballot and truly have to account for your own personal convictions, then I might have some respect for you. Otherwise; you are just more reason Roane County is in the shape it is in today and has been for over two decades.
Also, I had more meetings with TVA in one month than your entire County Commission combined. Just because I didn't report to you doesn't mean they didn't happen. In fact, being appointed to be Secretary of the Tennessee Energy Task Force guaranteed my meetings with them. You really think that it was a coincidence I was appointed to that task force? Do you really even know what you are talking about or is this one of your personal, ASSuming comments you make since you were cut out of the loop that liberal lacky Kent Calfee will no doubt bring you back into, or are you truly that ignorant on the issue?
It amazes me how you never bothered to call this office and ask for information but you sure felt it necessary to make up your own and share your negativity with anyone that would listen. You never made the effort to learn about anything that was going on here, even as I sent weekly press reassess that were never published, gave daily tours and had a 100% open door policy. Where were you then? Making ASSumptions about what you thought was happening instead of finding out what really was. It worked for you. I lost. So move on. Find someone else to attack, but remember, I didn't shut you out - you chose not to be involved.

CNN has just reported the House of Representatives maintain a loophole in the 'insider trading bill.'

Here is what was just reported and I haven't seen a link yet on CNN.

The Senate passed the insider trading bill which disallows Senators and their family (spouse / children) from making trades based on insider trading with a limitation of 45 days of action.

The House has a different set of rules and it has been reported Representative Cantor's staff changed the wording to remove the spouse / children restriction. This means insider trading is restricted for the House member yet not restricted for their spouse /children.

Fascinating story reported on CNN / Anderson 360 (tonight, 07/19/2012).

BCBS-Tennessee has a very informative website dedicated to health care reform, the exchanges, and a variety of faq's.

I have reviewed the data, including the recent articles on the hearings regarding roll-out of health care reform as it relates to essential health benefits. The hearings are on-going and there will be a hearing in Knoxville.

For those of you who have never attended hearings for particular subjects in the past, ie coal ash, they are clearly an experience with a room filled with innocent concerned citizens as well as politically charged lobbyists.

Nonetheless, BCBS has done a good job in delivering updated and accurate information which is easy to understand.

Not tying politics into this post other than I simply do not understand why one cannot be environmentally wise and fiscally conservative. Another conversation for another day. Seems to be a perfect opportunity for a candidate if they would practice.

Just about every time I pick up an item, I look to view where manufactured and China seems to be the more common location. Never having been to China, I can only imagine the bellowing smoke stacks, horribly polluted air, and masses of people going to work in factories.

Then, take this year's heat (as well as other years of extensive odd weather patterns), and to me it is clear global warming is a real problem.

Ran across this article today which I find questionable and thought I would share.

There is a history of Hurley lies. Let's get the RECORD STRAIGHT on Calfee.

"Today is a sad day. For weeks my primary opponent has been launching one personal attack after another. These are just flat out lies. She has said I donated $1,000 to Al Gore… False. She said I supported Obama…. False. She said I raised taxes over 300% … False. She has even followed myself, my family and supporters around taking photos of us speaking with fellow candidates; recently posting a photo of me on her personal face book page! Now we have heard that my primary opponent is getting ready to launch vicious, personal attack ads against me in the next few days. You want to campaign on facts and real life issues, that’s fine. But there is no place in the Republican Primary for sophomoric antics and this type of campaigning. It is a shame that some people will do what ever it takes to hold on to power. Tennessee deserves better than that!"

Rep Hurley, you have lied one too many times!

Blame yourself for your actions and the lack of supporters; don't make up stuff about your opponent. Integrity is First!

Could it be that the Freshman Rep stops posting on FB?

If I'm not mistaken, the Roane County News did a story about "keep Roane together" and Ms Hurley stated, (paraphrase) "I don't much pay attention to fb".

Words from Hurley due to Pepper's Wild Ride, source: Knox News Sentinel

"Hurley said the backlash could lead her to stop posting social media updates.

“People say they want a legislator they can relate to, they want an open-door policy and know everything that’s going on,” she said. “But you try to give them that, and they use it against you to try to make you look like a bad person.”"

First of all, I'm not picking on anyone for those who might have such a thought.

There are always wise decisions, a world of second chances, and then mulligans (if I could just have done this over).

What I do not understand is a State Representative who keeps making poor decisions, apologizes for them, then hangs one's hat on 'look at my record' (of course, not personal record).

The recent You Tube Video taken, apparently by Rep Julia Hurley as it is her registration name and likely her voice, instructing a ride along passenger to hold poor Pepper, the rescue dog, out of interior of the car to watch the dog 'air swim' is beyond me.

I wouldn't do this to any animal. I just don't get it!

Stuck at age 13, I guess.

Got your attention? Wouldn't this be grand? Used Kayak central location for people stopping off the highway in route to Tennessee rivers, to tour from Harriman to SwanPond on the water, to cruise around all our area lakes and rivers.

Why? Well, I am seeking advice on what Kayak to buy, and it will likely be used unless I can find some reason to purchase new.

I have no clue about Kayaks but would love to know more. Do I need a seat which is contained within the kayak or on top, just what do I need with regard to a kayak.

With the recent triathlon events in Roane County, which are likely to grow, hopefully more Roane County (and surrounding area) residents will want to begin participating yet one cannot really buy what you need at WalMart.

Been to Knoxville four times and more confused than ever as it relates to Kayaks.

Ideas?

All over campaign signs is the reason for the statement from Rep Hurley on her facebook page, a page which she had previously stated she does not follow much (interview with Damon Lawrence regarding 'keep roane county together fb page').

While perusing varied political facebook pages of candidates, I stumbled upon another questionable post by our current State Representative Julia Hurley which makes me wonder: Aren't there some ethical issues with stating a party is guilty of a crime before the filing of a police report, and how curious to be communicated by an elected official, a current State Representative?

It seems inappropriate of our current State Rep to accuse a person of a crime before the American system has taken its course of action.

From the fb page of TN State Representative Julia Hurley...

"TN State Representative Julia C Hurley One sign ripped down by one Amy Ferrell of Rockwood. Yes, I am filing a police report. Dirty and ugly politics ate not tolerated in my campaigns.
21 hours ago via mobile"

Isn't there some ethical issues with stating a party is guilty of a crime before the filing of a police report, especially coming from a current State Representative?

It seems inappropriate of our current State Rep to accuse a person of a crime before the American system has taken its course of action. What is the evidence? What is the charge? Why would a candidate name a resident name instead of letting the police and legal system handle the claim?

For years, there have been very few candidates who venture out to Swan Pond...at least, since the TVA Ash Disaster yet even then, we saw few, if any, elected officials knocking on our doors. Seems people (politicians) get to the TVA site and just simply forget to stop on by our community. In fact, I think if some TVA workers were to run for office, they possibly could be elected, as TVA has worked hard to earn our friendship and a mutual respect. The depth of the disaster has not changed yet mutual respect is present.

For candidates who are not familiar with Swan Pond...it's pretty easy to find.
Take the Mid-town exit (if you aren't from here), head as if you would be going to TVA Steam Plant at Swan Pond Road...then turn on Swan Pond Circle Road.

Why come to this residential area called Swan Pond? First of all, many residents have been in this area for over 6 generations. Secondly, most are voters --- we have Swan Harbor, Swan Pond Circle Road, several neighborhoods. The road is a 5 mile circle, beautiful anytine of year.

Because so many people out here have been in Roane County their entire lives, have raised children, and even have a huge community picnic whereby over 500 people attend, it is clear the family / friend ties are very lengthy in Roane County generated directly from Swan Pond.

The last politicians out this way included Kent Calfee, who received a great reception (even from Democrats) and prior Hurley supporters.

For anyone who is running for office, please take a moment to come to our community --- just give it a whirl -- park, get a 4-wheeler, visit us. Or, ride in your car, get out and meet us.

There are many local races as well as our State Rep race. Rep Hurley, why don't you stop by as well? In fact, I do not think Rep Hurley has ever been around Swan Pond Circle...only as far as the TVA plant. Of course, perhaps it is that no one has ever seen her. A common theme of the voters is "we vote for these people then never see them."

Politicians, we know you monitor this site so just come on out! We have Republicans and Democrats alike. Many voters ... and many friends connected to our community.

Just saw an old article referring to Hurley's career(s). Does anyone know what Hurley's consulting job is? (was?). Or, is this another stretch of the truth?

"Hurley now works as a consultant and entrepreneur. She is a Southern Baptist and a member of the National Rifle Association and the Gun Owners of America".

I understand questioning the credentials of a total stranger who might request a drug test.

However, I am starting to wonder why Rep Hurley is negative about her own drug testing...maybe wait 30 - 60 days then ask her ... Mark my words, in a period of time, she will take a drug test...not saying there are drugs in her system.

What about a hair sample test, would that work for detecting drugs?

Link...

It just seems to me that one would say something along the lines, "of course, I don't mind to take a drug test as an elected official and the Representative who is behind the drug testing bill...as long as it is with a certified credentialed drug testing agency..."

My goodness, what is good for the goose doesn't seem to be so good for the gander.

The drug issue in Roane County is 4x the national average as it relates to the illegal pill usage; known fact!

I am uncertain if Rep Hurley's bill even tests for drug pill usage yet when questioned today, the remarks are incredibly ignorant; see for yourself.
